LYRICS: Downpour

DOWNPOUR

Verse 1
Water drips slowly from the tap–
So this is where our story’s at
Each day just like the one before
And still I’m dreading the oncoming downpour

Chorus
Get rid of these torrents crashing down on me,
Gloomy and gray,
This isn’t where I, where I wanna be,
But the rain keeps it keeps falling

Verse 2
Where is the sunshine I adore--
The ray of hope I’m longing for?
'Cause these clouds and cryptic replies
Are heavy to bear when there’s no blame implied.

Chorus
Get rid of these torrents crashing down on me,
Gloomy and gray,
This isn’t where I, where I wanna be,
But the rain keeps it keeps falling
Get rid of these torrents crashing down on me,
Gloomy and gray,
This isn’t where I, where I wanna be,
But the rain keeps it keeps falling

Verse 3
I can’t think of a reason why
Our sunny life has to say goodbye
I don’t think I understand
How did this get so out of hand?

Chorus
Get rid of these torrents crashing down on me,
Gloomy and gray,
This isn’t where I, where I wanna be,
But the rain keeps it keeps falling
Get rid of these torrents crashing down on me,
Gloomy and gray,
This isn’t where I, where I wanna be,
But the rain keeps it keeps falling

Verse 1 Reprise
Water drips slowly from the tap–
So this is where our story’s at
Each day just like the one before
And still I’m dreading the oncoming downpour

Behind the Song

Originally named “Rain Keeps Falling,” I wrote this song in 2011 after experimenting with chords and wondering what would happen if I took a typical chord progression and played it backwards. Since then, I've orchestrated and edited the song to reflect what I feel like was always at the heart of the lyrics: the recognition of the beginning of anxiety. Like a leaky faucet is the precursor of a potentially larger problem, anxiety I was feeling seeped into my consciousness before I knew why; so, feeling the “oncoming downpour," I wrote this song to try to figure out what it was--though that ultimately came later in other songs.
