IN THE NAME OF NOTHING
Verse 1
Grieved by love’s death,
Believed to be loveless
You broke your rules
Hiding with mad men, Hoping for hope when
You find out they’re fools.
Pre-Chorus 1
So known, but so naive;
So plain, but so unseen.
Chorus
You say your way is so hidden
You can’t go on heartbroken
Tell the truth cuz it’s treason to reason it out like that, darling,
Get your love-lust in order
Don’t need to die here a martyr
In the name of nothing, nothing that will ever love you back.
Verse 2
Anger and passion,
A love-note assassin
That fills the room.
Deny it, but he’s who will lie as he leaves you
Confused in the fumes.
Pre-Chorus 2
Unfeigned or infamy?
Don’t make the same mistakes as me.
Chorus
You say your way is so hidden
You can’t go on heartbroken
Tell the truth cuz it’s treason to reason it out like that, darling,
Get your love-lust in order
Don’t need to die here a martyr
In the name of nothing, nothing that will ever love you back.
Bridge
Stop ignoring what you knew from the start:
Heartbreak isn’t worth wasting your heart.
Whether this was the first or the last,
Leave yourself and there’s nothing, nothing that will ever love you back.
Chorus
You say your way is so hidden
You can’t go on heartbroken
Tell the truth cuz it’s treason to reason it out like that, darling,
Get your love-lust in order
Don’t need to die here a martyr
In the name of nothing, nothing that will ever love you back.
Behind the Song
“In the Name of Nothing” started out as a journal entry where I was venting about recent revelations of abuse and divorce among people close to me, and the debilitating grief, rage and apathy I saw play out in the lives of those affected. As I wrote, things became more poetic, and it became a song that I describe as “tough love” for the lover-martyrs in my life.
