MEETINGS (Original Version)

Verse 1
It’s futile trying to get through to you when you’re on your phone,
You’re on your phone again.
I’ve been here too long, too short, too in between, too worn out
To figure out what I mean.

Pre-Chorus 1
Between these plain walls this room so small
And these people without a clue
So sick of black and white, all day, all night
All I want to be is with you.

Chorus
If you’re lost and you wanna go out somewhere: let’s go together!
I’ve had enough of these endless meetings on my quest for meaning
Let’s get out of here.
Let’s go out and do something crazy.
Let’s go out, my mind has been so hazy
Let’s go out; I want more, not meetings.

Verse 2
Stop talking, it’s not like I have plans tonight
When you’ve got the same old, same old story to tell.
You’re rambling and patience is a virtue but it hurts you
Like a slow descent into … Did I say that out loud?

Pre-Chorus 2
Between these plain walls this room so small
And these people without a clue
So sick of black on gray, all night, all day
All I want to be is with you.

Bridge
I want something more than this provincial life!
So tell me, what would you say if I said:
“Babe let’s go tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight…”

Chorus
If you’re lost and you wanna go out somewhere: let’s go together!
I’ve had enough of these endless meetings on my quest for meaning
Let’s get out of here.
Let’s go out and do something crazy.
Let’s go out, my mind has been so hazy
Let’s go out, don't wanna be pushing daisies,
Let’s go out; I want more, not meetings.

Behind the Song

This is the first version of this song to be written and performed. I wrote it in college when working 3 separate jobs in addition to being a full time student and encountering (and disliking) many meetings in my first four weeks of the new semester. But the first recorded version was premiered in 2020 during the Coronavirus Pandemic with Ruby's Corner, my livestream concert series. That version is called “Meetings (Pandemic Parody)” and references a few experiences of the times--like flushing sounds during a famous Zoom call, or issues people faced muting their video during meetings.
