Folk Song

Verse 1
Sing to me a folk song, my heart's a little too low.
Make my coat shine again just like a Palomino.
I'm trapped within the ground hoping I can rise above my seed,
And find the turtledove tune that once belonged to me.
Pre-Chorus 1
Though I have never heard it, I feel it in my blood:
The wisdom in the words their descendants still sing of.
Chorus 1
So sing to me with rain and light and soil;
Sing to me with your tenderness so loyal;
Sing and sing! I’ll dig to heal my roots,
'Cuz when I feel it fall, The folk song bares it's fruit.
Verse 2
Enlivened by a folk song, a troubadour talisman,
When I was walking home with my thunder-clouded thoughts again,
Gray and cold and pelt-less, walking in the storm…
Until an eerie voice cut through so still and warm.
Pre-Chorus 2
Alive but in a fog, I woke to live another day--
I couldn't find the rhyme it spoke, but I went looking anyway!
Chorus 2
So sing to me, ye rod and staff and river;
Sing to me, 'til I sweat and shake and shiver;
Sing and sing down each wending way
Cuz when the pilgrim sings, the folk song begins to play.
Verse 3
I found it in the folk song a medicine woman sang
As she mixed a tincture in a glass that removed my rust and gangue.
I sipped the remedy like a nervous little beast
As she said the song would only end when the living ceased.
Pre-Chorus 3
Before I could stop myself the notes began to pour
Down my chin and down my throat, and I only wanted more,
Oh I only wanted more; Oh, I wanted more!
Chorus 3
So sing to me, ye Leaf and twig and bark;
Sing to me, As I ride upon my ark;
Sing and sing until my sores all soar away
Cuz I heard it in a folk song, and I sing it to this day.
Yeah I heard it in a folk song, and I sing it to this day.
I heard it in a folk song, and I sing it to this day.
