Silly Strings
Verse 1
Our silly strings are tied and we can’t let go,
Though we might try to live the rest of our lives
We both know, it’s always you and I.
Pre-Chorus
I might try loving another,
But there isn’t any other
Who is such a part of me
That I can’t see between
My tangles and his ties
Chorus
Silly strings, they’re keeping me up at night
And though I don’t know why, something about it feels right
We’re stuck like glue, me and you, and I’m done with the fight
Though I’d love to have you out of my sight, it’s always you and I.
Verse 2
All pastel, bold and blank are our memories
Floating in the tank of my conscious mind
No matter what I do, it’s always you and I.
Pre-Chorus
I might try loving another
But there isn’t any other
Who is such a part of me
That I can’t see between
My tangles and his lies
Chorus
Silly strings, they’re keeping me up at night
And though I don’t know why, something about it feels right
We’re stuck like glue, me and you, and I’m done with the fight
Though I’d love to have you out of my sight, it’s always you and I.
Chorus
Silly strings, they’re keeping me up at night
And though I don’t know why, something about it feels right
We’re stuck like glue, me and you, and I’m done with the fight
Though I’d love to have you out of my sight, it’s always you and I.
Silly strings.
Behind the Song
It was the summer of 2012 and I had my first MacBook; I was playing around in GarageBand and found a rad bass hook and just started writing to a title that I thought would be cool, and Silly Strings was born. Over the next year or two, it became almost prophetic as I grappled with a relationship I felt I couldn't end or progress, until the co-dependency we shared felt almost like elastic strings. Since then, I've seen this song in a new light where those ties don't have to be toxic, but it's a fine line. ; )
